How To Survive A First Date – And Get A Second One
Going on a first date can be an intimidating proposition for anyone, regardless
of where you met each other. The nice thing about online dating, however, is that
by the time you get to the first date, you have usually talked on the phone and
online for quite some time, so you already know that you can have a conversation.
If you want your first date to turn into a second date, follow these success strategies

- Know where you are going and make reservations if possible. There’s nothing worse
than showing up at the restaurant and having to wait 90 minutes to be seated.
- Bring money and pay your own way. On a first date, you should always be willing
to pay for your own items.
- Choose an activity that will provide topics of conversation. For example, see a
movie or play before dinner so that you can discuss it while eating.
- Don’t discuss old relationships on a first date – EVER.
- Keep the first date short in length, in case you two don’t hit it off. For example,
choose to have lunch instead of going on a day-long boat cruise where you would
be stuck together.
- Pick an activity that you know both of you will enjoy. For example, if you are both
baseball fans, go and see a game at the local park.
- If you are a guy, then you should bring her flowers. However, it does not need to
be a huge bouquet. Often, a single rose or flower makes a more powerful statement.
- Have a backup plan to escape from the date if necessary. Have a friend plan to call
your cell phone at a certain time. If the date is going well, then you can just
pick up and say that you can’t talk right now. However, if you want out of there,
you can make up an excuse (like my kid just got sick, etc.)
- Plan to have fun and don’t let little things get in the way of that.
- Ask questions about the other person. This is your opportunity to learn more about
them.
