When meeting for a date, it is important to have a good plan in place for the evening’s
activities. Too many dates have been spoiled by lack of reservations or by both
parties saying “I don’t know, what do you want to do?”. To make your date a true
success, just follow these tips.
Before the Date
- Plan your activities and have backup plans as well. For example, if you plan
on going to an outdoor concert, have a local café nearby selected in case it starts
to rain.
- If your plans require reservations, make them ahead of time. For example, a date
at a fancy restaurant is much more impressive if you arrive and are immediately
whisked to your table.
- Do a little bit of research about your date. Does he/she like old movies? Do
they like to travel? If you know something that they like, it will make conversation
easier later on.
During the Date
- There are many options for a date – so be untraditional. Instead of doing the tired dinner and a movie route, try to shake it up a little. Take your date to the zoo or to a local museum.
- Stay focused on your date – not on everything else that’s going on around you.
- Offer to pick up the tab. This applies whether you are a man or woman.
After the Date
- Call them or send them an email the next day letting them know that you enjoyed yourself and to thank them for the wonderful date. This expression of gratitude should be there even if you don’t plan on asking them for a second date.
- If you are interested, set up a time for another date. If not, be polite and let them know that you would like to keep your options open.
